A
It was Thanksgiving morning. I was busy preparing the traditional Thanksgiving turkey when the doorbell rang. I opened the front door and saw two small children in rags huddling together on the top step.
“Any old papers, lady?” asked one of them.
I was busy. I wanted to say “no” until I looked down at their feet. They were wearing thin little sandals(凉鞋), wet with heavy snow.
“Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa.”
They walked over and sat down at the table. Their wet sandals left marks upon the floor. I served them cocoa and bread to fight against the cold outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started cooking.
The silence in the front room struck me. I looked in. The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice, “Lady, are you rich?”
“Am I rich? Pity, no!”
I looked at my worn-out slipcovers(椅套). The girl put her cup back in its saucer(茶碟)carefully and said, “Your cups match your saucers.” They left after that, holding their papers against the wind. They had reminded me that I had so much for which to be grateful.
Plain blue china cups and saucers were only worth five pence. But they matched.
I tasted the potatoes and stirred(搅动)the meat soup. Potatoes and brown meat soup, a roof over our heads, my man with a regular job, these matched, too.
I moved the chairs back from the fire and cleaned the living room. The muddy marks of little sandals were still wet upon my floor. Let them be for a while, I thought, just in case I should begin to forget how rich I am.

As the global financial crisis hits the economy, it's tough finding a job—especially if you're competing with thousands of other hopeful students. Sometimes you get the interview, but don't quite seem to land the job because you don't have related experience. Don't despair! Here are a few tips that might give you an edge.
★ Get connected to your network and try to expand it. Talk to friends, family and acquaintances. Let everyone know you are looking for a job.
★ Prepare your resume (个人简历) carefully and be sure it's perfect. Have someone else read it over for typos (打字错误) and grammatical errors. Get professional help. It's worth the money to present yourself well. If money is tight, read books on resume writing from your public library or search for free help on the Internet.
★ When you apply for a job, be sure you match and list any skills listed on the posting with the skills you have. If you get an interview, be sure to describe those skills thoroughly. Just having the skills is not enough. Expressing your abilities well can make all the difference in getting the job.
★ Research typical interview questions and practice interviewing. Be well prepared for every interview.
★ Don't be afraid to accept a position for which you are overqualified—if there's room for advancements. Many great job advancements come from first doing well at an entry-level position. If you have the right skills and attitude, it won't be long before you're in the job you want.
★ Volunteer for a few weeks in your field of study to gain experience if you feel your resume needs an improvement.
★ When deciding what to wear for an interview, think about the position level and the dress code of the organization.
★ Use every tool available to you. For example, this site has many job links for your use.

Boys need friends, suffer when they don't believe they have any, and worry over the ups and downs of relationships. Many adults believe that somehow boys need friends less than girls do, in truth, though, no boy is an island; boys value their friends throughout childhood and adolescence and are happier and healthier when they have solid relationships with peers(同龄人).
Despite the common belief that girls are better at relationships, most boys consider their friends a very important part of their lives, and boys may actually be better at keeping friendships than girls are. A recent study of 10 to 15-year-old boys and girls found that girls' friendships are actually more fragile. Girls tend to say and do hurtful things to each other more frequently than boys, and girls are more hurt by the end of a friendship.
Boys are the living definition of the phrase “peer group”; they love games with rules, competition, and doing things together. Boys seem to enjoy, even need the opportunity to test themselves against others, and many lasting friendships begin in karate(空手道) class or on the basketball court. Competence and skill are widely respected; being picked last for a team or left out altogether is an experience that can haunt(萦绕心头) a boy for years.
As boys mature, the friendship becomes even more important, and it frequently widens to include girls. During the teen years, friends can become the most important part of a boy's life—and a part in which his parents are not included. The confusion of being a teenager leads boys to form close bonds with friends. There is the sense for many boys that a friend is someone who is “always there for me”, someone he can trust. They may be partners in crime or partners in study, but the friendship of adolescent boys can run surprisingly deep.

46.The common belief of adults is that boys________.

A.many people believe girls are better at relationships
B.most boys consider their friends very important
C.boys may be better at keeping friendships than girls
D.boys may be more active in a friendship

49.As a boy gets older, he tends to________.
A.widen his circle of friends to include different kinds of people
B.shift his focus from his friends to himself
C.leave his parents out of his friendship
D.be confused about what a friendship is

50.What's the best title for the text?
A.Friendships between Boys and Girls
B.Boys and Their Friendship
C.Childhood and Adolescent Friendship
D.Tips on Making Friends with Boys

The number of speakers of English in Shakespeare's time is estimated(估计) to have been about five million. Today it is estimated that some 260 million people speak it as a native language, mainly in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the standard varieties of English found in these areas, there are a great many regional and social varieties of the language as well as various levels of usage that are employed both in its spoken and written forms.
In fact, it is impossible to estimate the number of people in the world who have acquired an adequate(足够的) working knowledge of English in addition to their own languages. The purpose for English learning and the situations in which such learning takes place are so varied that it is difficult to explain and still more difficult to judge what forms an adequate working knowledge for each situation.
The main reason for the widespread demand for English is its present-day importance as a world language. Besides serving the indefinite needs of its native speakers, English is a language in which some of important works in science, technology, and other fields are being produced, and not always by native speakers. It is widely used for such purposes as meteorological and airport communications, international conferences, and the spread of information over the radio and television networks of many nations. It is a language of wider communication for a number of developing countries, especially former British colonies. Many of these countries have multilingual populations and need a language for internal communication in such matters as government, commerce, industry, law and education as well as for international communication and for entrance to the scientific and technological developments in the West.

B.There are some 260 million native speakers of English in the world.
C.It is almost impossible to estimate the number of people with an adequate working knowledge of English.
D.People learn English for a variety of reasons.

53.According to the passage, what is the main reason for the widespread use of English?
A.It was popular during Shakespeare's time.
B.It is used in former British colonies.
C.It serves the needs of its native speakers.
D.It is a world language that is used for international communication.

54.What forms an adequate working knowledge of English?
A.The ability to read a newspaper.
B.It is difficult to judge because it differs for each situation.
C.Being a multilingual.
D.Being a native speaker.

55.What type of developing countries would be most likely to use English?
A.Those geographically close to the United States.
B.Those interested in the culture of the United States.
C.Former colonies of Great Britain.
D.Countries where international conferences are held.

Walking is a great way to get in shape without breaking the bank (it’s free and you do it every day).It benefits people physically, psychologically and socially. Here are how:
Keeps You in Good Health
In terms of health, walking is the key to managing weight, controlling blood pressure, and reducing the risk of a stroke, breast cancer, and many other illnesses. A quick and energetic daily walk lengthens your life, decreases the risk of disappointment and keeps up your mood and sense of well-being.
Keeps You Mentally Refreshed
From a psychological viewpoint, walking offers an opportunity to clarify thoughts, to solve problems and to reduce stress. If you take a walk that is relaxing and peaceful, walking can also become a form of meditation(冥想).
Allows for Social Relationship
Walking regularly with someone else enables a friendship to develop as the pair of you exercise. You can also schedule regular walk “dates” with your partner and use the time to discuss questions without being disturbed.
Lets You See the World Around You
Also, the best way to explore some of the world’s great cities—such as New York, London, Paris and Rome—is on foot. Walking motivates the senses and enables you to enjoy a rich life around you. Wordsworth, who is believed to have travelled around the world seven times during his lifetime, always delighted in the truth that “going for a walk is an invitation for surprise”.
Here are some tips to get going:
Get a walking partner and meet each week at a set time.
Get a dog and you’ll have a constant walking companion.
Choose a spot that is charming but accessible.
Start with a soft walk, then increase the pace and distance.
Include some hills and stairs.
Use an umbrella if it rains: the worst that can happen is that you get wet!

________________________________________________________________________

give off “发散”, put off “取消”,get off “下车”,均不符合题意。
moreover“此外,而且”;therefore“因此,所以”;otherwise“否则,要不然”。
此题涉及固定结构have difficulty(in) doing sth,意为“做…… “what great difficulty I had…complicated ideas in simple English.”为感叹句,其陈述句为:“I had great difficulty…complicated ideas in simple English.”。
take up开始从事/喜欢,占据;make up编造,讲和,弥补,打扮,组成;look up向上看,查找;turn up把声音调大,出现。
“Here you are.”表示同意请求,所以选by all means“当然可以”,相当于of course或certainly。
get to know意为“认识”。
look up抬头看;turn up出现,调大;get down下来。

A
小男孩的问话 “Lady, are you rich?” 和小女孩的话 “Your cups match your saucers”引起了作者对富裕的深刻思考, 改变了她原先对幸福的片面认识,因此用“Lady, are you rich?”
由第三段“I was busy. I wanted to say ‘no’ until I looked down at their feet. They were wearing thin little sandals(凉鞋), wet with heavy snow.”
由最后一段中的“Let them be for a while, I thought, just in case I should begin to forget how rich I am.”
It's worth the money to present yourself well.”
根据第一段“Many adults believe that somehow boys need friends less than girls do…”
根据第三段“Boys seem to enjoy, even need the opportunity to test themselves against others, and many lasting friendships begin in karate(空手道) class or on the basketball court.”
该研究显示“girls' friendships are actually more fragile”,并解释了其原因,由此可推知选C。
根据最后一段“a part in which his parents are not included”可知C为答案。
56. Why Walking Is Good for You/Advantages of Walking/Walking Is Good for You
57. To arrange.
58.By decreasing the risk of disappointment and keeping up our mood and sense of well-being.
59.To tell us that walking motivates the senses and enables us to enjoy a rich life around us./ To make us believe that walking can let us see the world around us.
由文意可知,这个例子是用来论证上一句话“Walking motivates the senses and enables you to enjoy a rich life around you.”的。
60.On foot. Because walking motivates the senses and enables us to enjoy a rich life.

According_to_a_survey_among_middle_school_students,_many_students_have_the_following_bad_habits:_staying up late into the night; going to school without breakfast and often eating instant noodles; spending much time chatting on QQ or playing computer games.
As we know, if you often stay up late at night, you will feel tired and sleepy during the daytime and cannot concentrate in class. Going to school without breakfast or eating instant noodles instead of meals will cause a lack of nutrition. Spending too much time on QQ or computer games will do harm to your eyes.
In terms of study and health, we should develop a healthy lifestyle. First, go to bed a bit earlier instead of staying up late. Second, keep a balanced diet to build up our bodies. Third, don't spend too much time on the Internet. Actually, there are varieties of activities for us to relax ourselves, such as doing sports or listening to music.
